Edward Bayley

Paediatric Spinal Fellow August 2018 – February 2019

I applied to Sheffield having completed my T+O training and 18 months of Spinal Fellowships. I wanted to work in a paediatric spinal deformity unit to develop my interest in this sub-specialty. I experienced intensive training in this area and quickly developed my knowledge and surgical skills over the six months. I was mentored in clinical management and and on leaving this post I could work independently as a Spinal Consultant. One of the highlights of this fellowship is the close working relationship you have with the surgeon you are working with on the day of surgery. This allows you to comprehensively discuss and plan the case, before moving onto the operating theatre to execute your surgical tactic. From here I secured a Locum Consultant post in Paediatric Spinal deformity in Nottingham, before returning to Sheffield as a Substantive Consultant.
