Alice Asobayire – Clinical Nurse Specialist

Alice is the spinal specialist nurse working closely with the team on all aspects of in-patient care. Alice also has her own dressings clinic which allows early follow-up of patients after discharge. Alice co-ordinates the care of complex patients, and works closely with the Spinal Cord Injuries team to ensure these patients are being cared for appropriately and gaining the rehabilitation they need.

Michael Reddington – Spinal Extended Scope Physiotherapist

Michael is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, having qualified in 1996. His career has progressed through specialist orthopaedics and paediatric orthopaedic training in Sheffield, where he gained his MSc in Musculoskeletal physiotherapy alongside his membership of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP). The Sheffield Spine team have supported both his clinical and academic training, culminating in the award of his PhD from the University of Sheffield investigating the Physiotherapy management of Sciatica. He leads the MSK AHP Research Interest Group and continues to lead a wide range of research projects alongside audit and service
development. He sits on the executive committees for The Society for Back Pain Research (SBPR) and the National Spine Network (NSN). He has worked as part of the Sheffield Spinal service since 2005. The role has many facets, most notably providing Physiotherapy and rehabilitation to a wide range of patients with complex spinal pain and disability. The role also includes working alongside surgical colleagues in outpatient clinics to provide comprehensive and holistic patient care.

Rebecca Cutts – Spinal Extended Scope Physiotherapist
Rebecca has joined the team in 2025 to provide support to the Spinal Consultant team and works alongside them in provision of spinal care and management.

Ruth Newsome (Retired) – Spinal Extended Scope Physiotherapist
Ruth has stepped down from her role in the NHS Trust having worked as a spinal specialist Physiotherapist and lead spinal clinician since 2000 and works closely with the consultant spine surgeon team to improve spinal care and management. She has a strong research background and has notably contributed to the National Spine Network Committee on provision of Combined Physical and Psychological Programmes (CPPP) within the UK.
