The Sheffield Children’s Hospital is a Tertiary referral centre and Major Trauma Centre situated on the Western Bank near The Royal Hallamshire Hospital (website).
It provides dedicated care in a recently refurbished hospital site. It receives referrals from Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, providing all aspects of medical and surgical care for these regions.
There is a large Trauma and Orthopaedic department, and we have close links to the Neuromuscular, Respiratory and Metabolic Bone teams. A multi-disciplinary approach is provided for all aspects of spine and limb reconstruction allowing Fellows to improve their holistic approach to children with more than one pathology.
The Spinal Unit is dedicated to treating all types of paediatric deformity. The recent installation of an EOS scanner has improved our ability to assess these patients, and provides an opportunity to further our research interests. Fellows will gain experience in bracing using the CMP rigid bracing system, and also the use of Formetric scanning to monitor progression of scoliosis.
