Spinal Services are provided predominantly at the Northern General Hospital which is the largest campus and has approximately 1100 in-patient beds. The Royal Hallamshire Hospital houses the Neurosurgical department where a spinal service is also provided. The unit has 58 adult neurosurgical beds, including a dedicated neurosurgical intensive care, and further paediatric beds at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Cross site visits can be arranged if of interest to you during your time with us. We also have close links with the Spinal Injuries Unit, which provides rehabilitation to all spinal cord injured patients from the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. Visits for interested Fellows can be arranged.

We treat all aspects of adult spinal surgery at the NGH and due to the age restrictions on who can have their surgery performed at SCH, late presenting adolescent deformities including Scheuermann’s Kyphosis is treated here. We work closely with the Metabolic Bone Unit, the Infections Diseases team, and the whole of the Orthopaedic Department to ensure patients receive the specialist care they need in Sheffield.

Fellows will benefit from consultant delivered care throughout their training ensuring that during their time with us they will gain the skills required to pursue a successful career in Spinal Surgery.
